BASS
NURSERY AREAS
Within the district covered by the
Wessex Marine Region of the Angling Trust, fishing for Bass from any vessel is
prohibited in seven separate areas, for all, or part of the year. However, prohibition
of Bass fishing in these areas does not apply to fishing from the shore.
The areas that are affected are:
CHICHESTER HARBOUR (1st May to 31st October) All tidal
waters enclosed by a line drawn 192° true from Eastoke
Point to Chichester Bar Beacon, then 0800 troe to Crakeham Towers.
LANGSTONE HARBOUR (1st May to 31st October) All tidal
waters enclosed by a line drawn 153° true from the Gunnery Range Light to
Eastney Point to Langstone Fairway Buoy (50’46.25’N, 01.27W), then 033° true to
the foreshore east of Gunner Point.
PORTSMOUTH HARBOUR (1st May to 31st October) All tidal waters enclosed by a line drawn from Gilkicker
Point to Southsea Castle.
SOUTHAMPTON WATER (1st May to 31st October) All tidal
waters enclosed by a line drawn 090° true from the Cadland
Foreshore to the Warsash Foreshore, passing through the north west extremity of
the Esso Tanker Jetty, but excluding those waters
above Redbridge Causeway on the River Test.
FAWLEY POWER STATION OUTFALL (STANS
WOOD BAY) (1st May to
31st October) The area enclosed by a circle drawn with
a radius of 3 cables around the outfall from Fawley
Power Station.
POOLE HARBOUR (1st May to 31st October) All tidal waters enclosed by a line drawn 110° true from
Jerry’s Point through Branksea Castle to Salterns Pier.
THE FLEET (All year) All tidal waters of the
Fleet inside Ferry Bridge.
The minimum landing size of Bass, as
set by MAFF is 36 cm. However, anglers are especially requested to conform with the limits set by the Angling Trust, which is 41 cm (16
ins).
