RETENTION SIZE LIMITS (RRSLs) AND MAFF MINIMUM LANDING SIZES (ML-Ss)
The UK Government,
via MAFF, lay down certain Minimum Landing Sizes (MLSs). However, with conservation in mind, the Angling
Trust provide Recommended Retention Size Limits
(RRSLs) for the majority of fish likely to be caught in UK waters.
An RRSL is a
suggested size for fish below which it should be returned to sea. Should there be any dispute on the
measurement of a fish, the Match Organiser’s Master
Measure will be the deciding measure.
All fish are measured
from the tip of the snout to the end of the tail fin, except skates and Rays,
which are to be measured wing tip to wing.
The
Recommended Retention Size Limits are in metric; equivalents in imperial may be
used by competition organisers, if specified.
FISH BELOW THESE
SIZES ARE NOT TO BE BROUGHT TO THE SCALES IN NFSA MATCHES, UNLESS THEY ARE
“WEIGH AND RETURN” OR “MEASURE AND RETURN” MATCHES.
